Opus Sectile is a stone art company that
specializes in one of a kind, unique and
original pieces of art that no one else can
produce. Our company motto is, "If you
can picture it, We can make it". Custom
mosaics are once again in vogue. Once
only available to the extremely wealthy
and due to cost, only seen in churches
and mosque, the mosaic is becoming
more and more popular with the
discriminating customer.
The style of mosaic that we offer is
called Opus Sectile or also known as cut
artwork. Opus Sectile is an art form that
has not been widely practiced since the
7th century, due to the fact that it was
extremely labor intensive. If still
available today this style of art would still
be considered labor intensive but the
large amounts of labor once required to
produce these works no longer exist; in
addition, this type of cut work is
extremely detailed oriented.
Mosaic subjects which once depicted
ancient gods, then became religious
figures in the middle ages, have now
wandered down from the church walls,
and are being installed in homes, offices,
on side walks, and in shower stalls, on
back splashes, counter tops, as door
frames, ceiling borders, fireplace wrap-a
rounds, the list is growing with no end in
site.
The present has now caught up with the
past. Today this type of art work can now
be produced in an efficient manner that
allows us to go from customer concept
to drawing to finished product in a matter
of days vs. Months in a conventional
setting. The 6 to 10 month lead times are
now a thing of the past.
